Teaching Staff

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a 4-year college degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development or related field and at least two years’ experience working with young children. 
  • Current certifications in child CPR and first aid or completion of certification of both within 30 days after first day of employment.
  • Ability to maintain visual supervision of the group of children at all times, in classroom, outside or in other settings. 
  • Ability to lift, carry and hold children up to 45 pounds.
  • Ability to write newsletters and other correspondence.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and a satisfactory criminal background check. 
  • Must have completed Stewards of Children “Darkness to Light” training.
  • Must have been vaccinated for COVID-19.

Job Segments

  • Develop and implement creative activities for individual children’s cognitive, physical, social and emotional development.  Teachers will follow FPP curriculum, philosophy, policies and Cognia guidelines.
  • Meet with assistant or co-teacher prior to the start of each school day for a period of 5-10 minutes to discuss the day’s schedule and activities, set up activities and gather materials for the day.
  • Communicate effectively and appropriately with parents to promote an understanding of each child’s day, growth and development through monthly calendars and weekly newsletters or individual notes.
  • Develop positive relationships with families through daily conversations, phone calls as needed, parent days, and family events.
  • Maintain records of each child’s growth and development and gather assessment/conference information on each child (e.g., progress review, anecdotal notes, child portfolio, etc.).
  • Conduct fall and spring parent-teacher conferences.
  • Lead the class competently and confidently following the daily schedule.
  • Plan, implement, and delegate for weekly activities (i.e., lesson planning, circle times, parent blog, center materials, etc.)
  • Provide a copy of weekly lesson plans to the director and assistant or co- teacher prior to implementation date.
  • Provide opportunities for assistant teacher to participate in leading daily activities and planning.
  • Work to maintain a clean, orderly classroom with occasional center-cleaning duties.
  • Report items needing repair or replacement to the Preschool Assistant Director and church Facilities Director using the appropriate forms.
  • Maintain requirements for: training, attendance records, classroom safety, hand washing, toy washing and all other relevant requirements.
  • Participate in carpool as assigned and arrive to assignment on time.
  • No cell phone use once students arrive.
  • Continue professional development through in-service training and/or continued education (minimum of 20-25 hours per year as agreed upon with Preschool Director).
  • Communicate all relevant and appropriate information regarding general issues or concerns to the Preschool Director.  (e.g., behavior of children, parent concerns, problems with fellow faculty members, etc.)
  • Perform other duties related to First Presbyterian Preschool as deemed necessary by Early Childhood Education and by the Preschool Director.
  • In addition, the Teacher will maintain prompt hours, notify the Preschool Office and Co Teacher in the event of absence, contact the Substitute Coordinator to secure a substitute in the event of absence, maintain a neat, clean and professional appearance, attend staff meetings, and follow the policies found in the FPP employee handbook.

Time Requirements

This position requires 4.6 hours per day (8:30-1:15 or the completion of afternoon carpool), plus occasional extra family nights, staff events and staff meetings.

Effect

The effectiveness of this position will be measured through Director and Assistant Director observations of job duties, communication and a formal job competency evaluation.
