Camp Friendship Themes 2012

June 11-15

Under the Sea- Dive into a week of adventure exploring the mysteries of the sea!  Your children will create a seaside environment in their classrooms that will invite them to discover a world of sand, shells, and sea life.  They will learn about underwater habitats and what scientists are doing to preserve this sometimes-fragile ecosystem.

June 18-22

Ooey Gooey Science- Get ready to explore the world of chemical reactions, surface tension, absorption, and density.  Children will conduct hands-on experiments while making fascinating discoveries about the world around us.  They will learn scientific terms such as hypothesis, predict, control, and proof while getting their hands dirty in this highly engaging week of meaningful experiences.

June 25-29

Lights, Camera, Action!- Children will become photographers in this hands-on theme exploring how light, shadow, and distance affect the overall look of their pictures.  As the children use cameras, they will be encouraged to notice patterns, think about everyday objects with a fresh perspective, and develop confidence in their own creativity.

July 9-13

Friendship Olympics- On your mark, get set, go!  We’re off to the Friendship Olympics where children will participate in a variety of sports, games, and contest, which promote team spirit and sportsmanship.

July16-20

Fairy Tales and Fantasy- Your children will live happily ever after in this enchanted land of fairy tales and fantasy.  This focus on make-believe will involve your youngsters in many enjoyable activities as they learn the important components of a fairy tale and will be able to compare/contrast fairy tales with other forms of fiction. Children will get their creative juices flowing by “writing” their own fairy tale.

July 23-27

Let’s go Camping!!- Children will explore the outdoor world of camping indoors!!  They might “pitch a tent”, make a backpack or canteen, learn all about fire safety, create nature collages, and discover the fascinating world of nocturnal animals.  These are just a few of the fun filled activities we have planned for this “outdoor” adventure!

 July 23-27

Kindergarten Kickoff- Do you have a child who will be in kindergarten in the fall? Is he or she wondering what it will be like? Come and find out in our kindergarten readiness camp. During this morning specialty camp, students are exposed to typical kindergarten activities, including all the fun and learning that comes with it! Students will focus on emerging reading and writing, logic and critical thinking, and age appropriate math, all while having fun and getting to know the routines of kindergarten.
